Jammu | Sep 1

After an uncertain Saturday, a festive Sunday, the morning in Jammu was quite different –pleasant and colourful. Though the agitation had been there for two months only but the Monday morning brought rare scenes which people could see after more than four months.
Freshened up children, attired in their school uniforms –different for every school –dotted the city streets waiting for their school buses. Most of the Colleges and schools in the City could not re-opened in July after they shut for the summer vacations in the last week of May. It was after four months that children were seen headed for their schools this morning.
However, lean attendance was recorded in classes on the first day. The usual activity and hustle and bustle of college life was missing and classrooms wore a deserted look though the teaching fraternity was present in full strength. A handful of students came to classes and hardly any teaching began in government colleges. College principals said that the attendance in classrooms was expected to be picked up in upcoming days since colleges had reopened after along break.
It needs to be mentioned that due to the ongoing agitation, Jammu University had to postpone the examinations of Post Graduate Courses in the mid-way and the Result of BA/BSc/BBA Part-II had not declared yet.

While talking to the Director School education Jammu, Zahid Khan told that the decision regarding the extra classes and overtime has not been taken yet as most of the syllabus of the 1oth and 12th classes have been covered up before the holidays.

Dressed up in school uniforms, children could be seen early morning waiting for their school buses at bus stops while others were cycling their way to beat the opening bell.
Teachers, too, appeared eager to see their students back in the classrooms. The former too kept the workload light keeping in view the holiday hangover. Geetika , a student of tenth class, remarked: “It is really nice to be back since I missed my friends during the vacations.” Some of the students were excited to come back to school whereas some were yet in the holiday mood.
