| Mangat gears up Health Department to tackle post flood situation | | | SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 08 – Minister for Health and Medical Education, Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma has stressed the need for launching extensive awareness campaign in the state especially in flood hit areas about precautionary measures to be adopted to restrict spread of epidemic and other water born diseases. Minister of State for Power and Health, Peer Mohammad Hussain, Director, Health Kashmir, senior officers and Chief Medical Officers of all the districts of the valley were present in the meeting. Mr Sharma was addressing a meeting of the officers of Health Department here today to review the arrangements made by health department to tackle post flood situation so far as medicare is concerned. Mr Sharma urged to deploy teams of doctors and other para-medical staff in the valuable areas to educate the people about precautionary measure to be adopted to get rid from water born diseases and provide medicines to the needy. He said involve local people in the awareness campaign and equip all health units with required medicines to keep at bay the water born diseases. Saying that profession of doctors is most respectable and they have to prove this by their treatment towards patients, attendants and public in general, Mr. Sharma said that one exceptional case of mishandling will put them and government in embarrassing position and face the ire of public. He advised them to be sincere towards their profession, duty and be kind and polite toward patients. Mr Sharma said that government will take necessary steps to remove bottle necks if any for improving the functioning of the department and service condition of doctors and other employees of the department but at the same government will take series note of any lapse on their part. Minister of State for Power and Health in his address lauded the efforts of health department during the floods and now has a major role to play to restrict water born diseases which proved to be fatal in case timely precautionary measure are not taken. He asked them to immediately start sanitation drive by involving locals, spray the water logged areas, distribute chlorine tablets and provide necessary medical facilities to the needy at their door steps. Director Health Services, Kashmir Mr. Muzaffar Ahmed apprised the Ministers that 160 teams of doctor alongwith paramedical staff and medicines have been pressed into service in all flood-affected areas. Of these, 12 teams have been deployed in Srinagar district, 58 in Anantnag, 44 in Pulwama, 34 in Budgam and 12 in Baramulla besides sufficient publicity material and chlorine tablets distributed. Awareness campaign launched through Radio, TV and Print Media advising people to use boiled water, and water dissolved with chlorine tablets available with the medical teams deployed in the areas and local health centres. Arrangements have already been made for spraying the affected areas by bleaching powder and phenyl. |
