Lawyers protest dharna, agitation enters 51st day

JAMMU, Dec 5: The agitation of the Lawyers practicing in Jammu wing of J&K High Court and the Subordinate Courts completed 51 days today. With the major demand for opening of High Court and Subordinate Courts for physical hearing and removing the restrictions on the entry of lawyers and public in the courts, besides other demands, the Lawyers continued their dharna in the Janipura Court area Jammu today. The charter of demands projected by the lawyers include opening of all courts for physical entry to lawyers and public, resume physical hearing, acceptance of hard copies of cases, opening the locked Bar Rooms of lawyers, provision of stamp papers and tickets within court premises through stamp vendors, immediate opening of Consumer Courts, shifting back Registry of Documents to Judicial Officers, withdrawing contempt initiated against the lawyers, holding immediate election to the J&K Bar Council.
The Lawyers Action Committee constituted by the practicing lawyers to carry struggle on these issues is aggrieved of the anti-lawyers attitude of the Govt. as well as the judicial authorities. The lawyers, who are officers of courts, project the constitutional and legal rights of the people before the courts for proper adjudication. The Lawyers Action Committee has asked the High Court to reconsider its decision and remove restrictions of entry in courts and allow physical hearings in cases. All other demands should immediately be conceded by the concerned Govt. and Judicial Authorities.
