World soil Day celebrated at Reasi

REASI, Dec 5: World Soil Day was celebrated by the Department of Agriculture Reasi in coordination with Team from ATMA Reasi which was inaugurated by Chief Agriculture Officer, Reasi Ravinder Thaploo. The programme was held as a part of Kissan Ghosti under ATMA Scheme and was attended by about 50 farmers including PRI Members. Sh Rakesh Kr Sharma started the proceedings by giving a brief account of the purpose and background of celebrating 5th December as Soil Health day. Guldev Raj, SDAO Reasi gave a detailed account of different activities being under taken by Department of Agriculture Reasi including programs for improving the production and productivity of different crops, apart from mitigating the problems of farmers affected by monkey menace through cultivation of Lemon Grass and support for marketing of byproducts of lemon grass. Rajesh Verma DAO (Extn) briefed the gathering of farmers on ways to improve soil health, purpose of soil testing and regular updating of Soil Health Cards to ensure optimum nutrient management. He urged the farmers to take help of Sh Suresh Chander and Smt Indu Priya both AEA’s for any assistance in soil sampling and soil testing in STL Reasi. Deepak Singh ASCO, Dharmari gave a demonstration on use of micro waste decomposer to convert organic waste into organic fertilizer with no cost to the farmer. He also spoke on the use of organic farming as a measure to sustain soil micro-organisms and soil fertility for optimum growth of different crops. Chief Agriculture Officer, Reasi Ravinder Thaploo emphasized on mandatory use of soil testing by farmers in order to protect and preserve the nutrients as well as useful micro-organisms in the soil. He assured the farmers to provide all the possible help in improving the soil health through sustained campaign and motivation for achieving maximum production/productivity in the District.
