| 4 arrested for desecration of Holy Quran in Handwara | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Sep 2
Police today arrested four Muslim youth for their alleged involvement in desecration of the Holy Quran to create communal disturbances at Handwara area of district Kupwara on August 25. Sources informed News Agency of Kashmir that a youth identified as Tariq Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Subhan Dar of Chalpora Wadipora hatched a conspiracy at Wadipora Chowk to disturb the already sensitive situation by arousing religious sentiments of the people of Rajwara. The arrested youth have been identified as Tariq Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Subhan Dar of Chalpora Wadipora, Javaid Ahmad Khan son of Khazir Mohd Khan, resident of Chalpora Wadipora, Khursheed Ahmad Shah son of Mohd Dilawar Shah, resident of Chalpora Wadipora and Tariq Ahmad Dar S/o Ghulam Ahmad Dar resident of Chalpora Wadipora. According to SSP Handwara, a group of four youth entered the mosque of Chalpora Wadipora after Esha Nimaz (last prayer of the day) on August 24 and took out the Holy Quran from the mosque and desecrated the Holy Quran on the main road of Wadipora, adding that after this shameful act these persons left for their respective homes. Sources further informed that on August 25, people of Rajwara found the Holy Quran desecrated which led to violent protests across the Handwara followed by police firing. |
