New CJ Justice Sarin being sworn in Thursday
After a lag of nearly three months the lawyers today resumed their work at the Jammu wing of Jammu and Kashmir High Court. Under the banner of Bar Association Jammu, the lawyers had been playing a lead role on the Amarnath Shrine land agitation which culminated on August 31 at a note of victory. Bar members today resumed work after about three months. The advocates today appeared in all the Courts including High Court Jammu Wing, District Courts and Tribunals. On June 9, 2008, Courts including High Court closed for summer vacation and High Court reopened on June 30, 2008. On the same day the lawyers suspended their work on the call of Bar Association Jammu and thereafter the members of the Bar Association abstained from Courts in connection with the agitation regarding Shri Amarnath Ji land row. After the victory the BAJ decided to call off their strike and resume work. On September1, 2008 BAJ celebrated victory day and today on September 2, 2008 resumed work. Meanwhile, a grand farewell cum dinner was hosted to the outgoing Chief Justice KS Radhakrishnan of Jammu and Kashmir High Court on his transfer to the Gujarat High Court by the Jammu District Judicial Officers. The function was attended by the Judges of the High Court, Officers of Registry and Presiding Officers of Subordinate Courts. In the meantime the Government has appointed Justice Manmohan Sarin as the new Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court. The 62 year old Justice Manmohan Sarin, First Pusine Judge of the Delhi High Court, who was elevated as Chief Justice of J&K High Court will take oath on September 4, 2008. According to the High Court sources the oath ceremony will take place at Raj Bhawan, where the Governor NN Vohra will administer the oath of office to Justice Manmohan Sarin. Justice Manmohan Sarin born on October 20, 1946 was elevated as Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on May 17, 1995 and permanent judge of the same High Court on December 6, 1996 and was presently First Pusine Judge in Delhi High Court. Justice Manmohan Sarin will be the 26th Chief Justice of J&K High Court. In his farewell address, JR Kotwal Principal District and Sessions Judge Jammu highlighted the achievements made by the Chief Justice KS Radhakrishnan during his short stay in Jammu and Kashmir High Court. The outgoing Chief Justice KS Radhakrishnan in his address appreciated the working of the Subordinate Judiciary. The First Pusine Judge Justice Nissar Ahmed Kakru of J&K High Court, Administrative Judge for District Jammu, presented memento on behalf of the Judicial Officers to the outgoing Chief Justice. It is worthwhile to mention here that 59 year old Chief Justice KS Radhakrishnan took oath as Chief Justice of J&K High Court on January 7, 2008 and in a very short span of eight months he was transferred from J&K High Court to Gujarat High Court. BAJ also organized a farewell function in honour of the outgoing Chief Justice KS Radhakrishnan. The function was attended by among others by the Judges of the High Court and Subordinate Court including the officers and staff of the Registry Jammu Wing. |
