| Unity among separatists develop cracks | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 4
The new honeymoon between the hardliners and the moderates among the separatists is on the verge of a divorce. The land row turmoil had brought the camp led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani and one by Molvi Umar Farooq on one platform. But the two sides seemed to lack sense of adjustment and accommodation as a result of which the strains have again developed between the two sides. Inside reports said that the main problem with the hardliners is their ego. Since they enjoy greater support from people and the Jehadis they think they are superior to the moderates. And the moderates fear that they may lose their importance once they were forced to follow the rules laid down by Geelani. In fact what has forced the two sides to remain together is the pressure from the people in Kashmir who feel that they have been ditched by the mainstream political parties, including the Congress, the National Conference and the PDP. A section of separatists believe that Government agencies were trying to sow seeds of dissensions by setting free some leaders, who were arrested in recent incidents of violence, and detaining some others under the Public Safety Act. In this connection they cited the example of Shabir Ahmed Shah who is considered highly moderate. Also, a number of moderates in the separatist camps fear that in case Geelani was allowed to take the centre stage the moderates will lose their identity. In that case they will also lose their claim of being representatives of people of Kashmir. |
