In yet another endeavor to empower rural women, Vice Chancellor Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Masud A. Choudhary has announced that the University will provide free space for opening up of a sale showroom for the bio-crafts and other products that would be prepared by local women trained at the Centre for Biodiversity Studies under the DBT funded Bio Resource Training Project. In the valedictory function of Bio-craft and Quail Farming batches of women held at the Centre for Biodiversity Studies, Masud A Choudhary said that rural women have great talent but there are no platforms in the area to promote their skills. He said that with a mission of rural empowerment using local bio resources, the University was successful in seeking grants from Central government through its CBS. "Our Centre for Biodiversity was given crores of rupees by the Ministry of Science & Technology and various other agencies of the Government of India to run projects for the benefit of the people", he said adding that the projects got tremendous response from the women of the area and at least 200 have completed training in different skills in just one year. Announcing showroom for the sale of the product of these women, Vice Chancellor said that University will provide free space for opening up of a showroom for exhibition and sale of Straw-based craft, Chikri wood crafts, mushroom, ornamental flowers and various such products developed by the trained rural women in order to encourage them for in setting independent enterprises. Impressed by the quality of the products developed at the CBS by the women trainees VC said that we will try our best to help these women market their products in order to ameliorate their family incomes. Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor distributed cheques amounting to Rs. 1.6 lakhs and certificates among 80 trainees who completed their training successfully. The valedictory function of training programmes in Quail farming and Bio craft was attended by a galaxy of officers of the University, local residents and trainees. Prof. A. K. Koul, Dean School of Biosciences and Biotechnology, Mohammad Rashid Choudhary, Registrar BGSBU, Prof. R.N. Gohil and Director CBS were also present on the occasion. |
