Jammu | Sep 4

Hundreds of Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers in various zones in Jammu district are without salary since past five months.
The ReT Third teachers of various educational zones in Jammu province have not received the salaries from past five months thus creating resentment against the education department.
It is to mention that more than 9000 third primary teachers had been appointed by the state government under Rehbar-e-Taleem Scheme in 2003 for teaching English in primary schools and their salaries were being drawn from Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan.
“From past five months we have not been paid salary by the department. We have approached almost all the concerned officials but of no avail. They continue to withhold our salaries,” said a teacher, Alka Kumari.
She said that the teachers are suffering a great deal as they are unable to fulfill the requirements of their families. “Our families are starving due to withholding of wages to us,” she added.
Another teacher, pleading anonymity criticized the functioning of the Education department. He said, “Despite repeated requests to the officials, our salaries from April to August have not been released”.
The regularizd Rehbar-e-Taleem Teachers Forum leaders claimed that hundreds of teachers working in various Schools of the district have been denied salaries by the Education department. They urged the government to make arrangements for the timely disbursement of salaries.
A forum leader said ReT teachers had been functioning as backbone of the education sector in the state but regretted that despite their role in streamlining functioning of defunct schools, ReT teachers had been bearing brunt of the discriminatory policies of the government.
Other members said ReT teachers played a dominant role in streamlining the functioning of the defunct schools in far-flung areas. They said a number of schools in rural areas were being run by the ReT teachers.
