| Army organizes cancer detection, infertility screening camp | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 4
A two day cancer detection and infertility screening camp for wives of Army Officers and Jawans, organized by Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) and Medical Branch of Headquarters 16 Corps at Medical Centre, Nagrota, was inaugurated by Gita Karwal, President AWWA, today. In her inaugural address Gita Karwal, showed her concern on the rising incidence of breast cancer and cervical cancer on one side and infertility on the other. She informed the gathering that both breast cancer and cervical cancer, if detected at an early stage, can be treated successfully. AWWA president also touched upon some aspects of infertility which can be completely cured or many ways can be adopted by infertile couples to have issues. It is an important cause of stress and martial disharmony in young couples, she observed. Treatments are available for both male and female factors causing infertility. The most modern concepts of IVF are also available in Army free of cost. During the screening camp, the ladies were checked for Anemia by doing Hemoglobin Blood test. This was followed by Breast Examination gynecological exam where Pap smears were taken for detection of cancer of the cervix of uterus. The ladies were examined by Lady Medical Officers of the Army Medical Corps. Each lady was given a Health card with all relevant history written in it for follow up. |
