| Army to pay compensation for demined areas in Jammu | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 4
Army has agreed to pay crop compensation to migrants in de-mined areas in Khour and Akhnoor areas of Jammu division. This was stated at a meeting which reviewed the rehabilitation of border migrants under the Prime Minister's Reconstruction Plan here yesterday. After a survey by the Army and Border Roads, it was found that there was 3,512 acres of mined land in border areas of Khour and Akhnoor for which crop compensation will paid to the farmers. The meeting chaired by the Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Tara Chand was told that infrastructure was being developed by public works department at a colony for migarnts comprising 6,072 plots. The Speaker said besides building houses for the people rendered homeless due to shelling from across the border, the government has also distributed relief of Rs 10,000 per family for the purchase of utensils and furniture. He said that after assessing the situation on ground the compensation amount has been increased from Rs 2,200 per hectare to Rs 8,200 per hectare for farm land coming under mine area. |
