| 11 killed, 24 injured in Thathri | | BUS ACCIDENT | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 4
At least eleven people were killed, 24 others injured, three of them critically when a transport vehicle in which they were traveling skidded off the road and fell into river Chenab in Kishtwar district. The mini bus was bearing registration number JK06-760 was going from Kishtwar to Thathri when it met with an accident. Reports said that the driver of the bus lost control as the mata door skidded off the road just two-kms short of its destination. Police launched rescue operation with the help of local army authorities and para military and shifted the injured to the hospital for medical treatment. Five of the injured who were in critical condition have been shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital here where there condition was still adverse. They were first moved to the local hospital but in view of their deteriorating condition, the five injured passengers were brought in to Jammu. The Kishtwar district in particular and the erstwhile Doda district in general is heavily prone to road accidents. After a series of accidents earlier this year which led to killing of more than 150 persons in around four months, the then government headed by Ghulam Nabi Azad had mooted a slew of measures to minimize the number of accidents. These measures were decided after suggestions made by an expert panel. However, none of the guidelines have so far been put into practice. The deceased have been identified as Tara Chand son of Saroor, Mohd Ismail son of Fazal Din of Brabshalla, Najam Din son of Rajab Mochi of Thathri, Anu Devi wife of Puran Chand of Saroor, Nilma Devi wife of Vijay Kumar of Malti Bhadarwah, Nishata Begum wife of Din Mohammad of Durban Thathri, Bashir Ahmad son of Abdul Satar of Hamid Pora Gandoh,Susheel Kumar son of Swami Raj of Najo Saroor, Bunty Bharti (driver) son of Kishore Lal Bharti of Sarthjal, Tara Chand of Sarore, Karam Chand of Balgram Bunzwa and Tara Devi of Benone Bunzwa. Those received injuries have been identified as Mohammad Yousuf of Kither Bunzwa, Barkat Ali of Sua Bunzwa, Mushtaq Ahmad of Pat Nazi Bunzwa, Dewan Chand of Palmar, Anchal Singh of Thathri, Amit Singh of Thathri, Shah Mohd of Gandho, Mudasir Ali of Thathri, Anju of Ruklala, Ravinder Singh of Ruklala, Imtiyaza Begum of Thathri, Amit Kumar of Thathri, Munshi Ram of Blagam, Husam-ud-din of Nali Bunzwa, Surinder Kumar of Jammu, Khalida begum of Thathri, Devinder Singh of Ajit Garh Jawan of 11 RR, Abdul Latif Range officer of Thathri, Abdul Gani of Kewa Bunzwa, Ramesh Lal of Shoriti, Shanti Devi of Baga and Bashir Ahmad of Fisco Thathri. Besides this, thirteen persons were also missing in the mishap. However, sources informed that the missing persons are believed to have feared dead but no official confirmation has been made in this regard. The missing have been identified as Dewan Chand Bhagat of Bunzwa, Anju Kumar of Sarthal, Brig Lal of Badhat, Abu Hussian of Udrana, Abdul Rehman of Nandna Thathri, Hasham Din of Satani Saroor, Shahbaz of Thathri, Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh of Kishtwar, Sat Lal of Kishtwar, Krishan Lal of Saroti Saroor (Forest Guard) Abrar Ahmad of Kishtwar, Rajesh Kumar of Patnazi, Master Abdul Quyoom of Bhadat. Police reports maintained that police and army have launched a joint operation to trace out the missing persons immediately. |
