Jubilations in Kargil over LAHDC elections
NC bags six seats, Independents 17, Karbalai re-elected

Jubilations marked the conclusion of second General Council elections to the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil (LAHDC) for which the counting of votes was taken up and results declared for the 24 seats for which the election was held.
Out of the total 30 seats, four are nominated while the two candidates of the National Conference were declared elected unopposed.
As per the final results, out of 24 council seats, six seats have been won by National Conference (NC), 17 seats by Independent candidates and one seat by Indian National Congress while BJP and PDP drew blank.
National Conference had fielded nine candidates, BJP 4, Indian National Congress 3 and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) one.
The winners also included two sitting executive councilors, Nasir Hussain Munshi and Sonam Namigial, who won from Graundmanglepure and Karsha constituencies respectively.
The sitting Chairman/ Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC, Kargil, Haji Asgar Ali Karbalaie, who contested the elections from two constituency of Pashkum and Poyen could won only from Pashkum constituency defeating his nearest rival Mohammad Murtaza, an Independent candidate with 361 votes. Haji Karbalaie secured 1726 votes while as Mohammad Murtaza got only 1326 votes. But Haji Karbalaie lost in Poyen constituency from his nearest rival, Haji Ibrahim, an Independent candidate by a margin of 333 votes. Haji Ibrahim secured 1475 votes against 1142 votes polled by Haji Karbalaie.
Those who won the elections on NC ticket included Syed Abass from Taisura constituency, Ghulam Aamir from Chiktan, Ghulam Rasool from Rambirpora, Syed Razvi from Chutiskambo, Aga Syed Ahmed from Parkachik and Abdul Rahim Akhoon from Thasgam-Thuina. The Indian National Congress bagged the single seat from Karsha constituency of Zanskar sub-Division.
The Independent candidates who won the elections include Haji Mohammad Hamza from Bhimbat constituency, Syed Hussain from Kargil town, Ghulam Abass seating councilor from Shargole, Syed Mujtaba from Tresponde, Tsering Smanla from Stakchay-Khangral, Mohammad Kazim from Chliskamboo, Mohammad Ismail from Basoo, Stanzine Norboo from Chan, Mohammad Murtaza from Haji Ibrahim from Poyen, Haji Mohammad Hussain from Lankarchay, Phunsehok Tashi from Padum and Zakir Hussain from Shakar constituency.
