| Navratra Festival commencing from September 30 | | | Early Times Reporter

To discuss the necessary arrangements with regard to Navratra Festival, 2008 at Katra which is being organized jointly by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, state Tourism Department along with other departments and various other organizations of the Katra town commencing from September 30th of 2008 a meeting was convened here at Katra today.
The Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Mr. Sudhanshu Pandey chaired the meeting while District Development Commissioner Reasi, Sanjeev Verma, Director Tourism, Sarita Chuhan, Senior Superintending of Police, Reasi, Verinder Sharma, Dy. Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Mr. Verinder Salathia, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Bikram Singh Jamwal, Addl S.P. Katra, Ashok Sharma, SDPO Katra, Jugal Sharma, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Katra, RR Sharma. President Municipal Committee, Katra Mulkh Raj Purohit, Superintending Engineer R&B, Hydraulic, Joint Director Tourism, S.M.Sahni,Tourist Officer, Katra along with presidents of various association with members of Katra town and local officers also attended the meeting.
The Div Com. discussed the necessary arrangements in this behalf with the officers of various departments including officers of the shrine board, tourism department and local members from various events which include Shoba yatra, All India Devotional Song competition, wrestling, Laughter Show, Cultural events, Bhagwat Katha and other cultural programmes.
During the meeting various issues regarding celebration of Navratra Festival were discussed in detail for taking out daily programmes in the holy town of katra.
Addressing the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner said that the main aim of the festival is to promote pilgrims tourism on a large scale and also to boost an exhibit the culture of the state. He sought the full cooperation from the committee members in this behalf to make the festival more attractive and successful. Mr. Pandey also asked all the heads of the committees to submit their requirements with in short span of time so that it can be managed properly. He also issued on the spot instructions to clear all pending payments of the participants who participated in earlier events during last years.
Mr. Panday further said that the inauguration ceremony of the festival shall be held on 30th September, 2008 at 11 a.m. on bus stand Katra by lightening the traditional lamp by the VIP. Different cultural programmes by various troops like Songs and Drama Division, and cultural troops from with in and various parts of other states would be arranged during the festival days besides other programmes for the entertainment of devotees and locals. He also issued on the spot instructions to officers of various departments to make all arrangements well before the start of festival.
During the meeting various arrangements like security, drinking water, un-interrupted power supply, traffic, Medicare, sanitation, fire tender services, sitting arrangements, welcome gates, illumination of the town and other related issues were also came under active consideration. |
