| JKBA again `skips’ domestic activities | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 6
Likewise last year, Jammu and Kashmir Badminton Association (JKBA) has `skipped’ its domestic activities scheduled this month in different age groups. Otherwise mandatory on part of the state associations to complete the domestic activities before the national calendar of activities formulated by the Badminton Association of India (BAI), the district and state championships in J&K would now be organized in November. The first activity at the national level--Inter-state (zonal) championships is to be held from September 28 to September 30. Accordingly, the BAI norms say that the states should complete their domestic activities between September 18 and September 26. “Unlike last year, this time it was due to the agitation in Jammu that we could not conduct the domestic activities, which were, otherwise, tentatively scheduled for September,” general secretary of the JKBA, Dr O D Sharma told SAN. The domestic competitions were put off after the district units from Kashmir Province expressed their inability to participate during `Ramadan’ and also because of prevailing unrest in the valley. “It was after the district units from valley expressed their inablitiy to take part in the state championship this month that we put on the back burner the domestic events. I have already discussed it (postponement) with the Association president,” informed Dr Sharma adding, “the executive committee shall also be briefed in a meeting which has been called here tomorrow.” However, as per the BAI calendar of activities, the Sub-Junior Nationals shall take place at Patna in Bihar from November 10 to November 16, followed by the Junior Nationals between December 8 and December 16 at Chennai. Similarly, the prestigious Senior National competitions shall take place from February 10 to February 18 at Indore in Madhya Pradesh. |
