Even though the man-to-man conflict has its own regular toll, the man-animal conflict is taking a heavy toll of the normal life in the border district. Six villagers were injured early this morning when a wild bear went on prowl haunting the residents of Mandi tehsil. “A wild bear suddenly appeared in Loran village, when people were busy in their normal work”, said an eye witness account. As the people start running, the bear attacked and injured six of them. The injured were later shifted to Poonch hospital, where their condition was stated to be critical. The animal later escaped into nearby forest area. The injured were identified as Sultan Mohammad (50 yrs) son of Abdul Aziz Bhat, Muhammad Ashraf (30 yrs) son of Ab Rehman Sheikh, Bashir Ahmed (43 yrs) son of Ghulam Muhammad, Muhammad Sultan son of Muhammad Ali, Abdul Majid (33 years) son of Lassa and Ghulam Mohammad (40 yrs) son of Wazir Muhammad, all residents of Loran This was the second incident of such nature in the district during this week. Earlier a girl was killed by a wild beast on Thursday. About 75 people including women and children were killed and 330 others injured in the beast attacks in Jammu and Kashmir during the past two years. Official sources said about a dozen wild animals were also killed by the people in retaliation in the state. People reject the protests by NGOs, alleging that these animals have killed and wounded many women and children in the state. The state has formulated a comprehensive management plan for containing such incidents, which includes involving infrastructural strengthening, awareness campaign and better communication. The plan has been submitted to the Union Ministry of Environment and forest and state planning Department for financial assistance. |
