| ‘J&K passing through a difficult phase’ says Rana | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 7
Saying that Jammu and Kashmir is passing through a difficult phase and there are forces, which for vote bank politics, are trying to create regional and communal divide, MLC Devender Singh Rana has urged the people of the state to maintain communal harmony and strengthen secularism. Addressing meeting of party workers here today he called upon the civil society, both in Jammu and the valley, to rise to the occasion and help bridge the regional divide and break the walls of mistrust which have been created between the two societies by the misinformation campaign unleashed by forces inimical to peace and communal harmony. Rana said that the state is at a critical juncture and time has come that all political parties and politicians should rise above electoral politics and work to ensure that Jammu and Kashmir not only stays together but also as one single entity where all faiths, ideologies, religious and castes co-exist in harmony. Political parties and the politicians have to play a responsible role and should be very careful in their utterances so as not to hurt the sentiments of any region, faith or religion, he observed. The NC leader said that certain political groups for their vested interests are pushing the peace loving people of the state to a corner and for their own gains are trying to create a divide which, he added, is unfortunate and urged the people to isolate such elements. Asking the Union Government to understand the nuances of Jammu and Kashmir political dynamics and address these with compassion and care. While the Centre should initiate a dialogue with all the three regions of the state, the right thinking people of the state must also start an inter region and intra-region dialogue so that all the three regions live together in harmony. Rana said the majority community of Jammu has a great role to play in the region to instill confidence in the minority communities and ensure that the traditional Hindu, Muslim, Sikh ‘Ithad’ is maintained at all costs. Those chauvinistic forces, which want to divide the state on the basis of region, religion, caste, creed, ethnicity or language have to be fought and needed to be defeated, he added. |
