| PM to depute central team to assess flood losses in J&K | | |
Srinagar, Sep 8 Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has assured to immediately send a central team to Jammu and Kashmir to assess the extent of damages caused by the floods.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said this soon after reviewing the flood situation and relief measures in a special Cabinet meeting here today. He telephoned the Prime Minister and apprised him of the flood situation and the damages caused to standing crops, livestock, property and the public infrastructure.
He also apprised the prime Minister regarding the measures taken by the state government for rescue and relief of the affected people.
The Chief Minister requested Dr Singh to immediately depute a central team to the state for assessment of losses.
Mr Azad told Dr Singh that the magnitude of damage caused by the floods was vast and invited prompt attention for relief and rehabilitation of the affected people.
The Prime Minister assured Mr Azad that a central team would be deputed to the state within the next 24 hours.
The Chief Minister has given directions to all the agencies concerned to finalise the details of losses so that a comprehensive proposal for the central assistance can be formulated for immediate release of funds.
