| Finally, Kundal may contest elections | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 8
B. R. Kundal, who had resigned as Chief Secretary and joined the Azad led coalition government as a cabinet minister for a brief period, is getting ready for contesting the election. He, however, prefers to wait for the Congress decision. If he gets the party ticket he will definitely fight, sources close to him said. The sources said that these days Kundal's house is frequented by a large number of Congressmen from south Jammu, including those from R. S. Pora and Samba. In all probability he may get the ticket for Samba constituency where a large section of people are his supporters. The Congress will have no major problem in allotting party ticket to him because in 2002 the seat was won by Yashpal Kundal of Panthers Party. Congress circles said that Kundal alone was in a position to measure swords with Yashpal Kundal Since the BSP is plagued by factionalism BR Kundal can be in a position to receive political and electoral mileage. Sources close to him said that Kundal may not contest the election if the Congress refuses to give him the party mandate though number of his supporters has been insisting on him to contest as an independent candidate. If former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, is given a free hand in selecting candidates Kundal would be on the top of the list. It was Azad who persuaded him to join the Congress. Kundal joined the Congress and had he not done so he would spent four more month as Chief Secretary and at present could be appointed as an adviser to the Governor. For such sacrifice the Congress may not ignore Kundal. |
