Bhaderwah to entice more tourists

The phase one tourist infrastructure projects taken up under Tourist Destination Development Scheme and Circuit Development Scheme in picturesque Bhaderwah Valley would be completed by the end of next month.
The information was given by Bhaderwah Development Authority (BDA) officials to Divisional Commissioner Jammu Mr. Sudhanshu Pandey during his tour to the area during which he inspected pace of work on various tourists infrastructure projects. The Divisional Commissioner who also convened a meeting of BDA officials called for drawing management plan for all the assets created under the twin schemes, besides stressing for making private sector a key player in the development of tourism industry in the area.
The Divisional Commissioner also asked BDA to continue its publicity campaign for show casing the Bhaderwah Valley as a major tourist destination of the state.
The CEO, BDA informed the Divisional Commissioner that two Unique resorts have come up at Khellani- Kellar and Jai comprising of Igloo shaped hutments, first time introduced in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Khellani Resort overlooks beautiful valley of Kelar and has combination of forest, garden and orchid ambience which mesmerizes the visitor leaving a lasting impression in his memories..
Pandey was apprised about the Model Herbal Garden developed by the Authority in collaboration with Directorate ISM J&K at Drudhoo- Bhadarwah over an area of 16 kanals. 32 Herbs like Lavender, Kut, Acnicea, Podoplylum, Rosemary, Geranium, Saxifraga, Viola etc are cultivated in the garden. The Herbal garden will educate the local farmers for taking up the activity on commercial lines and help in conserving the rare endemic flora of Herbs of the region. A full-fledged Herbal garden over an area of 40 kanals at Chabra Kotli is also in offing with central financial assistance from National Medicinal Board through Directorate of ISM J&K, besides a Herbal Treatment Centre at TRC Amiranagar being envisaged at a cost of Rs. 45 lakh through AYUSH India.
The Authority has motivated several farmers to take up floriculture activity on commercial lines for growing flower seeds of Nasturtium, Marigold, Lilium, Gladiolus etc. so that farmers can get enhanced returns from their dry land farms. About 400 kanals of land has been registered under Technology Mission Programme for the purpose and farmers will be provided cash incentive at the rate of Rs. 13000 per 4 kanals of plots under the said programme.
The CEO BDA also demonstrated Internet facility installed in Bhaderwah and its networking through wi-fi at various tourist spots, besides at Sub Divisional Magistrate office, Degree College, ITI, Boys HSS, GHSS and other places. This project is first of its kind in the state.
The Divisional Commissioner was informed that destination Bhadarwah has been surveyed and assessed for adventure tourism activities of paragliding, white water rafting, skiing and snow boarding. Mr. Pandey stressed the need for involvement of private sector and need for Authority to extend ancillary facilities like taking the land on rent, water and electricity, waster management etc.
The Divisional Commissioner was further apprised that Authority has finalized the Master Plan for the local area so as to ensure a balanced planned growth of the infrastructure on sustainable basis without sacrificing the productivity or disturbing the environment and natural resources of the area.
Earlier Pandey visited Tourist complex at Dandi comprising of 13 rooms, restaurant besides souvenir shop and Tourist Reception Centre Amiranagar comprising of accommodation block, information block and a restaurant, besides two dormitories. The Information block at Amiranagar will house the Internet Centre having facilities of online booking, guides rooms, Tourist Manager’s office for facility of the tourists. The TRC and the tourist complex has been landscaped by beautiful terraced gardens on the pattern of Mughal Garden.
The Divisional Commissioner also inspected the picturesque Lake View resort developed over an area of 90 kanals along the bank of Neeru river, draining the glacier of the Valley Bhaderwah. The unique garden having exotic flowers like Lillium, Gladiolus, Azellia, Carnelia, Mangonolias, Roses and an artificial Lake over an area of 12 kanals comprising of kids pool and boat club. The water body will provide boating facilities besides rearing the trout fish to support the angling activities. A waterfall 10 meter wide and 4 meter high has been built in the water body and will be a great attraction for the children. Resort has been provided facilities of night stay in six duplex hutments and food courts which will be run on public-private partnership basis. A 10 KW Microhydel Project has been constructed for providing 24 hour electric supply to the resort which will pilot the efforts for electricity generation through renewable energy sources and education to the upcoming entrepreneurs.
The CEO informed that from time to time BDA organizes festivals for the publicity of Bhaderwah as a scenic tourist destination. All India Tour Operators and officers of Ministry of Tourism including Union Minister of Tourism and Culture Mrs. Ambika Soni participated and took stock of development programmes undertaken for promotion of tourism in the region.
