| FCI releases 20,000 MT additional rice quota for Kashmir | | | Early Times Reporter Kupwara | Sep 8
Governor, Mr N N Vohra, today said that the Food Corporation of India has released additional 20,000 metric tonnes of rice for meeting the shortages at various Public Distribution Stores and for timely completing winter stocking in the remote areas which remain land locked for better part of the year. Addressing the district officers here this morning, the Governor said that adequate quantity of rations would be made available at the sale outlets in the plains of the Kupwara district by September 20. He directed the Divisional Administration to ensure the winter stocking for six months in the far off areas, like Tanghdar, Keran, Machil etc, by September 30. During his review of various developmental schemes in the district, Mr Vohra announced an additionality of Rs 6.44 crores to the annual outlay of the current fiscal for the district which has been pegged at Rs 85 crores. Of the additional outlay announced by the Governor, Rs 3.50 crores would be spent on the Bus Stand at Handwara. Similarly, responding to the demand made by the local Trade & Business Association, the Governor agreed to provide an amount of Rs 1. 20 crore for the Kupwara Bus Stand. A number of other delegations projected the need for a sports stadium for the youth and accommodation facilities for the employees. Mr Vohra sanctioned, on-the-spot, Rs 62 lakhs for the construction of a Sports Stadium and Rs 50 lakhs for the construction of Government Flats in the town. Taking cognizance of the public complaints on the selection process adopted for various appointments under the Integrated Child Development Scheme in the border district of Kupwara, the Governor directed for keeping on hold the select list till a thorough enquiry is conducted by the District Development Commissioner. The Governor also directed the District Development Commissioner and other district officers to undertake regular touring of the areas under their jurisdiction and gear up the field agencies to mitigate the problems faced by the people. An extra effort was required to be taken to expedite work on various schemes in view of the limited working season.
Earlier, interacting with the members of the Citizens’ Council and leaders of various political parties and social organizations, the Governor stressed the vital importance of peace, especially in a State which has suffered immensely due to disturbed conditions for about two decades. Mr Vohra exhorted the people to support the efforts of the Administration in heralding peace and normalcy, which he described imperative for the progress and development of the State. He said that in a democratic set up the people were free to voice their grievances and it was the responsibility of the Administration to look into their problems with an open mind. Mr Vohra referred to the setback caused to the overall economic development of the State in the wake of recent disturbances and hoped that with the return of normalcy, the developmental tempo will regain momentum. He reiterated the commitment of the State Administration to ensure equitable development of all the regions and the sub regions of the State. Responding to the issues raised by the Citizens’ Council, the Governor said that a Working Group has been set up to examine the losses suffered by different segments of the society. The recommendations of the Group would be applicable to both the regions of Jammu and Kashmir uniformally, he added. Reiterating that there was no issue which could not be solved through a process of dialogue; the Governor urged all sections of the civil society, including the Coordination Committee, to come forward for talks at whatever level they felt comfortable. Principal Secretary to Governor, Mr B B Vyas, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Mr Masud Samoon and IGP, Kashmir, Mr S M Sahai accompanied the Governor during his visit to the forward district. |
