| Sagging industry gets Rs 10 Bn projects | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 8
In the days of turmoil when business is on the slump, there is come good news –Jammu and Kashmir is all set to get a whooping investment of Rs 10 Billions as 23 mega projects in public and private sectors have been cleared by the Government. One of the major projects in public sector worth Rs 100 Crore investment has been cleared by the Kashmir Valley while another big project in private sector worth Rs 164 Crore investment has been cleared for Jammu region. An official spokesman said that the 24th meeting of Apex Clearance Committee (APCC) was held in Srinagar today under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Mr. S. S. Kapur wherein 23 industrial projects in medium and large sectors have been cleared. The committee approved a proposal of Steel Authority of India, a Government of India enterprise for setting up of a steel processing unit at Lassipora, Pulwama in Kashmir division. The project will have production capacity of one lakh tones of TMT bars and GC sheets per annum. The said project is being set up at a cost of Rs 100 crore and will create employment opportunities for a number of unemployed youth. M/S Shri Cements projects was also approved with an investment of Rs 164 crore. The project will have a potential for creation of many ancillary units. The other projects cleared are for manufacturing of high precision auto components, terri-towels, cement, hi-tech batteries, LT/HT wire cables, steel products, paints, DG sheets, electric motors and steel pipes etc. The total investment to be mobilized on setting up of the 23 projects cleared by the committee will be to the tune of Rs 1002 crore and direct employment to be created in these units will be about 5500 persons. The Chief Secretary directed for proper zoning of new industrial estates keeping in view various industrial activities, pollution norms and other related factors so that requisite pollution control measures like setting up of Common Effluent Treatment Plants could be designed and set up in the states. The Chief Secretary also emphasized the need for adhering to the time schedule for issuing of the NOCs by the State Pollution Control Board/Power Development Department/ Industries and Commerce Department as laid down under single window clearance system notified by the State government in the new industrial policy 2004, so that the necessary approvals could be issued to the entrepreneurs in time and more investment in the state attracted. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Agriculture and Production department Ms. Sonali Kumar, Commissioner/Secretary Industries and Commerce Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Chairman State Pollution Control Board Mr. C. M. Seth, Directors Industries and Commerce Jammu/Srinagar, representatives of Finance/Planning Department, PDD, JK Bank and MD SIDCO. |
