| BJP against deferring assembly polls | | ‘EC should not go by the dictates of separatists’: Khajuria | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 9
Reacting to reports that the Election Commission of India (ECI) may defer assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir at the behest of the parties like the Congress, JKNPP, the NC and the PDP, the BJP State President Ashok Khajuria today strongly urged the Nirvachan Sadan not to succumb to the pressure being exerted by such parties and hold elections on time. He said the BJP is opposed to the Governor’s Rule as it is no substitute to the popular rule. He further said that the ECI must remember that all these parties have become thoroughly unpopular in the state due to their anti-people policies and this is the reason these parties are insisting on poll deferment. Khajuria in a statement released to the press here today said the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is conducive for undertaking the electoral exercise and that those who are seeking postponement of elections are simply afraid of facing the angry electorate. He further said that the BJP Central leadership has told the Election Commission in clear terms that holding of elections and constitution of a democratically elected government is not only in the interest of the people of Jammu and Ladakh but also in the interest of the nation. The Election Commission just cannot go by the advice of the separatists and the so-called mainstream parties and defer elections. He said the people of the state are anxiously waiting for the elections as they are determined to punish and discard those who have betrayed them and played havoc with the people. Commenting on the revelations of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq that he has received a communication from Pakistan to the effect that Pakistan is willing for cross LoC trade and that the Hurriyat Conference is finalizing the names of Kashmiri traders who will go to PoK for negotiating trade agreement, Khajuria asked as to who in the state is ruling? He said it appears that the authorities in the state and at the Centre have abdicated their authority in favour of the likes of Mirwaiz who are playing the shots. Reiterating his party’s opposition to the idea of cross LoC trade, the BJP president asked the Indian State to assert its authority and isolate all those who are playing nefarious games in Jammu and Kashmir. |
