| BEML Ltd bags contract for stainless steal EMU coaches | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 9
Defence Public Sector Undertaking, BEML Limited, has bagged a developmental contract from the Railway Board for Design, Manufacturing, Supply, Testing and Commissioning of two rakes consisting of 18 Nos. of State-of-the–art Stainless Steel AC Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) Coaches valuing Rs.31 Crores. These coaches are planned to be delivered within two years. On completion of the supply of these two Rakes, there is also a provision to enhance the quantity up to six rakes (totaling 54 Nos. of Stainless Steel AC EMU Coaches) taking the total contract value to the tune of Rs.92 crores. BEML Limited with its experience in supply of Metro Coaches to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will be manufacturing these corrosion resistant coaches with superior passenger friendly interiors and inbuilt safety features. These coaches will also have higher/increased life cycle. Once these EMUs are developed and pressed into service, BEML Limited will be addressing the huge demand of Indian Railways for about 3000 EMU coaches valuing around Rs.5000 crores in the coming years. This is the first time in India that BEML has designed and developed Stainless Steel AC EMU Coaches and proposed to supply to one of their valued customer, Indian Railways. |
