| Life returns to normal in Valley | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Sep 9
Life in Kashmir valley returned to normal today with opening of shops and business establishments which remained closed for three days following a strike call given by separatists coordination committee. Government offices, educational institutions, banks, courts and markets opened in Srinagar and all other towns of the valley this morning, official sources said. However, these establishments remained closed in Anantnag district and parts of downtown Srinagar in protest against the alleged highhandedness of security forces, they said. Groups of youth took to streets in Anantnag where police lobbed tear gas shells to disperse them. Five persons were injured in the clashes, the sources said. Groups of youth also took to streets in various parts of downtown city to protest against the use of "brute force" by police and CRPF in the areas yesterday, the sources said. They said the youth indulged in stone-pelting at various places forcing a complete shutdown in the interior city today. At least 65 persons were injured in the day-long clashes between police and protestors in the city and in Baramulla district town yesterday. Shops and business establishments also remained closed on the outskirts of Srinagar. The sources said public and private vehicles plied in the valley after remaining off the roads for the past three days. The coordination committee on Sunday announced a month-long programme which included two general strikes and a Lal Chowk chalo march on October six. |
