Director General Economics and Statistics, J&K, G. A. Qureshi participated in the National Conference on Statistics at Vigyan Bhawan New Delhi, which was attended by Ministers in charge of Statistics from different states on September 9, 2008.
The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh inaugurated this conference.
The Director General Economics & Statistics represented the State Government and made a presentation on “ Empowering and Strengthening State Directorate of Economic and Statistics” with special reference to J&K. He also presented the response of the J&K government on the agenda items listed for the National Statistics conference organized by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. He put forth view point of State Government for granting autonomy to the Statistical system for generating credible Statistics and also the need for restructuring the Economics and Statistics organization to meet the growing data requirement of development planning in the state and in the country.
