Volleyball Federation of India has assigned the task of hosting the 31st edition of the Sub-junior (boys and girls) National Volleyball Championship at Jammu in November. This was disclosed by the general secretary of the Association, Kuldeep Magotgra while interacting with Sports & Allied News, here today. “The Volleyball Federation of India has granted us the approval for hosting the mega event in Jammu from November 27 to December three at MA Stadium, here,” he said and added that about 50 (boys and girls) teams are expected to take part in the championship. To make the event a success, the J&K State Sports Council has extended both infrastructure and financial help the host Association. “We have been extended a financial help of Rs 6.11 lakh by the Sports Council against a total expected expenditure of around Rs 18 lakh to be incurred on the tournament,” disclosed the general secretary. As per the Association estimates, about 800 people, including 750 participants and officials will be there in the championship. “A team is comprised of 15 players, a manager and two coaches. For officiating purpose, about 50 referees are also supposed to report,” sharing the information, Kuldeep Magotra told SAN. In Sub-Junior boys category, J&K is ranked 8th after the state lost in the knock-out stages of quarterfinals last year while Tamil Nadu won the boys title and the girls trophy went to West Bengal. To raise competitive sides from the state, the Volleyball Association shall soon initiate a selection process, followed by the coaching camps. “The selection process shall start by the end of this month under the guidance of technical committee of the Association,” disclosed the general secretary. |
