| 20 in fray for post of JU VC | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sept 10
The University of Jammu is abuzz with hot competitive activity as a search panel constituted by the Governor (Chancellor) is on the lookout for a new Vice Chancellor for the prestigious campus which boasts of its global standards. The incumbent Vice Chancellor of the University Prof Amitabh Mattoo is reported to have decided to hang his boots well ahead of the end of his term which is due in November. Sources said that the options were considered to grant the present VC yet second extension in term but he is reported to have declined. The search panel constituted by the Governor –comprising Advisor to Governor Dr Sudhir Singh Bloeria, former Vice Chancellor of the Jawahar Lal Nehru University Prof GV Chadha and the Vice Chancellor of Arunachal University –has kicked off the search. After speaking to a cross section of senior Professors and Officers at the Campus the Early Times has concluded at least one thing –the majority wants someone to be chosen among them and not an outsider. Interestingly, the way the ambitious aspirants are projecting their own candidature may well pave way for an outsider to take over the top position at the University of Jammu. Sources said that the search panel has written to the Registrar of the University of Jammu to elicit opinion of the senior Professors in the University if anyone of them stakes claim for the post. Following a letter from the Registrar, sources claimed, more than 20 Professors and Officers have staked their claim for the post of next Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu. “20 Professors of the University of Jammu have sent in their bio data for consideration of the search committee”, said the sources. Not only that the University Professors are posting their individual claims to the top position but they have also started listing reasons why the other should not be chosen for the position. “In addition to projecting their own claims, most of them are also negating the claims of their other competitors”, sources said. As already pointed above, this negative competition may certainly pave for the selection of an outsider as the Vice Chancellor. It is learnt that the Dean Academic Affairs, who is also the senior most Proferssor, SBP Singh Sehgal, another Professor RD Sharma are emerging as the main contenders. Sources said that the Registrar of the University Prof GS Sambyal may still emerge as a dark horse if a serving Professor is to be chosen. Some of the competitions have now started thinking on the lines of wisdom. It is learnt that the ace competitions are approaching the others to build up a consensus. Hectic lobbying is on to ward off the non-serious stuff from the competition and evolve a consensus on the candidature of one or two top contenders. It is not necessary for the search committee to select any local or serving Professor of the University. The search committee, sources said has started receiving bio data of some other aspirants also. One of them Prof Nisar Ahmed Ganai, the Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education. |
