| 3-day environment film festival begins in Leh. | | | Early Times Reporter Leh | Sep 11
The prevailing global warming has also affected Ladakh severely as its mighty glaciers are receding at a very fast rate during the past 30 years, resulting big climatic changes in this region. As such, the people of Ladakh, particularly the young generations, should be educated about the conservation of nature through films and other matched mediums. This was stated by the Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Chering Dorje at the inaugural function of 3-day Film Festival on “Environment and Wildlife” being organized in Leh by the CMC and WWF under the banner LEH CMC VATAVARAN 2008. A ‘degree of concern’, a film by Syed Fayas was screened on the first day of the festival . Dorje said that the people of Ladakh have been very caring and loving to the wildlife and have maintained a complete harmony with nature since centuries which could be an example for the rest of the world. The CEC said that the rich Nations have misused the natural resources indiscriminately for their selfish interest and they are entirely responsible for imputing climatic complication on rest of the world in the form of Global Warming. To save the Globe from such a threatening calamity, Dorje stressed to disseminate the awareness of conservation of nature all over the world. He thanked the CMS, New Delhi and the WWF for holding the Film Festival in Leh on such a relevant subject. The Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, who was also present on the occasion as guest of honour, said that Leh got a great opportunity for witnessing such a film festival regarding conservation of Eco-system and environment in Trans-Himalayan region. Congratulating the organizers for holding this festival in Leh, the Deputy Commissioner said that this film festival would be a regular feature of Ladakh Festival onwards. Ashvini Sinah of CMS delivered welcome address and also highlighted the objectives. He said that during the 3-day film festival, films like Himanshu Malhotra’s Ladakh-A Fragile Heritage, Shafqut Habib’s Dal –Looking for Life, Naresh Bedi’s Cherub of the Mist, Gaurav Jani’s Riding Solo to the Top of the World and Davis Guggenheim’s An Inconvenient Truth will be screened. |
