Early Times Report
Jammu | Sept 12

Facing stiff resistance from the members of the Amarnath yatra sangarsh samiti the state government has decided not to punish protestors who were part of the two month long agitation over Amarnath land row.
The govt has also advised all its senior police officers to take a compassionate view of the large number of cases pending with various police stations involving youth.
It is learnt that the state government under pressure from the sangarsh samiti has decided to go slow and settle all those cases which do not involve serious charges and mostly pertained to small incidents of violence and stone pelting.
The state government officials including police officers have been specially instructed by the state administration not to adopt hard approach and try and resolve the issue. The directions were in line with the broad agreement reached between the sangarsh samiti and the four member panel on August 31 leading to suspension of the agitation. The samiti had also threatened to revive its agitation if govt failed to fulfill its own commitment.
Meanwhile, official sources said that the state government is also considering the demand for the grant of compensation to traders and transporters who suffered heavy losses owing to the two-month long shutdown
A separate committee, under the chairmanship of the Chief secretary, was looking into the issue. The govt is working on the proposed compensation package in keeping with the aspirations of people belonging to both the regions, official sources said.
