PDP LET GO 'OPPORTUNITY' TO OCCUPY HOT SEAT FOR TWO WEEKS
9/10/2006 11:36:40 PM
Jammu,September 10 :
By not announcing the name of the party nominee likely to be hoisted as deputy Chief Minister,Peoples Democratic party seems to have lost another opportunity to occupy the post of Chief Minister in the absence ofGhulam Nabi Azad who is going abroad for about two weeks.
According to official sources, Azad is expected to move to New Delhi enroute London on September 12 in connection with his address to European Parliament on September 18-19.
The question which is doing the rounds here in poltical circles,”had the PDP recommended any of its ministers for the post of Deputy Chief Minister, after Mr Baig resigned from the cabinet, he would have naturally functioned as the officiating Chief Minister.
Since PDP is still toying with the idea of doing away with the post of Deputy chief minister or not had not staked its claim for the Deputy Chief Minister’s post.
On the other hand the delay has virtually provided senior most cabinet minister,Mr Mangat Ram Sharma, another opportunity to occupy the seat in the absence of CM.
According to heirarchy, he is the natural choice for functioning as officiating Chief Minister till Mr Azad returned from the foreign trip.
When Mufti Mohd.Sayeed headed the Government Mr Mangat Ram Sharma, who belongs to the Congress, was the Deputy Chief Minister and he had officiated as Chief Minister a number of times when the Mufti remained out of the state.
Official sources said here today that a notification indicating that Mr Mangat Ram Sharma will officiate as Chief Minister was to be issued a day before Mr Azad leaves for Delhi on September 12.
