Army authorities today dismissed Maj Gen A K Lal after he was found guilty of subjecting his female subordinate officer of sexual assault by a court marshal, which concluded its proceeding today. Defence sources in northern command, here told News Agency of Kashmir that the court marshal proceedings concluded today at 10 Core in Bhatanda Punjab and the army officer was found guilty of the charges leveled against him by his junior female officer, Captain Neha Rawat of the Signal regiment then posted in Leh. The officer was charged with misconduct after a woman officer complained of sexual harassment. He was facing trial by a military court which found him guilty and recommends his dismissal. "A court of inquiry had recommended that the officer (Maj. Gen. A.K. Lal) be charged with misconduct. He was now facing a court martial which recommends hi suspension" Defence sources added. Earlier Lt Gen A.S. Sekhon, general officer commanding (GOC) of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps, conducted the court of inquiry. Captain Neha Rawat of the Corps of Signals had filed a complaint alleging that Lal, the GOC of the Leh-based 3 Infantry Division, had misbehaved with her during a meditation session. The then Indian Army chief, Gen. J.J. Singh, who was on a visit to Srinagar on the day the complaint was filed, had immediately issued orders to initiate action against Lal on the basis of Rawat's complaint. Even Union Defence Minister A.K. Antony had also sought a report on Rawat's charge. |
