Kotwal reviews progress on updating electoral rolls

Secretary Industries and Commerce, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, who is also Electoral Observer for Udhampur, Reasi, Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar districts of Jammu Division, convened a meeting of officers of Revenue Department to review achievement made in preparation of updated Electoral Rolls in the district here on Saturday.
The Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, Rajesh Sharma, Tehsildars of Udhampur, Chenani, Ramnagar and Majalta and Booth Level Officers and other election related staff were present in the meeting.
While expressing his satisfaction over the preparation of electoral rolls in the district, Dr. Kotwal called upon officers of Revenue department to gear up their activities in updating electoral rolls with accuracy leaving no scope of any complaint from the voters. He also stressed for preparing new electoral rolls of legitimate male and female voters of the district who have attained the age of 18 years as on January 01, 2008. He urged the new voters, who want to enlist their name in the voter list for the first time, to approach their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
To enlist the name of new voters, Dr. Kotwal called upon the Tehsildars concerned to take due care in verifying their date of birth. In case of any illiterate electorate, he asked the Tehsildars to get their date of birth verified from the Station House Officers or from the registers of Chowkidars concerned. Due care may also be taken in mentioning the Number and Name of polling stations, he asserted.
The Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, who is also Electoral Registration Officer of the district, apprised that there are 350 Polling stations in the district comprising of 148076 male and 133376 females voters who have become eligible to exercise their right of franchise. This includes those new voters who have been born on or before January 01, 1990.
Later, Dr. Kotwal visited the National Informatics Centre, to inspect scanning of Form No.001B for the preparation of EPICs. He was told that over 75792 Forms have been scanned till date and on an average 5000 forms are scanned daily for which the software and technical support is being extended by NIC.
