IRC & Mahajan Sabha Gandhinagar distribute blankets to poor

Jammu, Jan 21: The Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu District in collaboration of Mahajan Sabha, Gandhinagar organised a camp and distributed 500 woolen blankets and other domestic use items to the poor and needy persons at Mehr Chand Mahajan Park Gandhinagar. The Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ramesh Chander was the Chief Guest.
The other items distributed included utensils, buckets, walking aids and copies for children.
Additional Deputy Commissioner lauded the joint initiative of Red Cross Society, Jammu District, Social Welfare Department and Mahajan Sabha Gandhinagar for extending much needed help to the poor population to face the ongoing severe winter conditions. He said that while there are many schemes of the Govt for the welfare of the poor, widows and orphans, but public initiatives like this are always welcome.
Ramesh Chander who also holds the additional charge of the Managing Director of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes Development Corporation Limited, asked the people from these communities to avail the benefits of their schemes for socio- economic and educational upliftment of weaker sections including Notified National Minorities, Safai Karamcharis/ Scavengers and Divyangs (Persons with Disabilities).
The District Social Welfare Officer Ajay Salaan who holds the charge of the Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu District, explained various welfare schemes of the Red Cross Society and Social Welfare Deptt and said that any needy person should contact either these organisations and seek immediate help. He listed many schemes and programmes for the purpose. He also disclosed that the Department has plans to establish more neighbourhood Day Care Centres for Elders on the lines of the one established at Roop Nagar.
Jugal Mahajan Patron of Mahajan Sabha Gandhinagar welcomed the guests and explained charitable activities of Mahajan Sabha and said that service to the poor and needy people has been the objective of Mahajan Sabha which are its regular feature. He also thanked the Indian Red Cross Society for its collaboration in such welfare initiatives.
Among those who spoke on the spoke on the occasion included President All Mahajan Sabha, Ramesh Mahajan, Ms. Bhanu Gupta Municipal Corporator Gandhinagar, Manjit Singh President Senior Citizen Forum. Among those present include C P Gupta Secretary of Mahajan Sabha.
