| Congress trying to set its house in order in Jammu | | | Early Times Report Jammu | Sept 15
After having been bogged down for two months, during the agitation over the land row, the leaders of the Jammu unit of the Congress have started galvanizing the party activities following reports that the poll process was to being from the mid November. The onus for pulling the Congress out of the morass has fallen on the youth brigade, led by Raman Bhalla, a former Minister. During the last one fortnight Bhalla has had series of interactions with the party colleagues, including R. S. Chib, Manohar Lal Sharma, Gharu Ram, Suman Bhagat, Yogesh Sawhney and others where a decision was taken to restart their pre-poll campaign. Their efforts have been supplemented by two party MPs, Madan Lal Sharma and Lal Singh. However, the youth brigade has decided to keep some controversial party leaders, including Mangat Ram Sharma and G. S. Charak, at an arms length. Inside reports said that the PCC Chief, Prof. Saifuddin Soz, has extended his support to these leaders for strengthening the Congress in its stronghold, the Jammu region. On the basis of this decision, neither Mangat Ram Sharma nor G. S. Charak was invited to the party convention here yesterday. At the same time they have decided to lend support to Prof. Soz and former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, in their task of infusing vigor in the Congress. However, the Congress unit in the Kashmir valley is yet to set its house in order which had been rocked by the ongoing agitation launched by the separatist supported Coordination committee. Reports said that the Congress high command has asked Soz, Azad to assist leaders like Peerzada Mohd Syed, Ghulam Rasool Kar, G. A. Mir, Abdul Gani Vakil and others in strengthening the Congress in the valley before the poll schedule was fixed. |
