Karmapa in Leh, stresses peace

The second highest spiritual leader of the Buddhists, after Dalai Lama, the 17th Karmapa Lama, His Holiness Gylwang Karmapa is in Ladakh on a ten days visit.
On the concluding day of fortnight long Leh festival, the Karmapa delivered a highly inspiring religious sermon which was attended by at least 25,000 followers.
He told his disciples that for universal peace and harmony, clean mind, fine thinking and good deed is very important. As such every citizen of the world should take their responsibility to ensure peaceful, secure and prosperous future of the world.
Karmapa expressed pleasure over the well protected and well maintained age old Buddhist religion and its culture in this region . To keep the values of Buddhism alive and continue for the world peace, promotion of script and language is very much important, He added.
He expressed happiness over the congenial Buddhist-Islam relationship in Ladakh since centuries and stressed to maintain such bond in future too for the progress and prosperity of the people of this region.
Pointing towards the duties of Buddhist monks, Karmapa stressed the need to spread and disseminate Buddhist values, significance of religion, duties and responsibility of Buddhists, so that real essence of Buddhism is worked out for the betterment of all sentient beings. Meanwhile, the fortnight long Ladakh Festival was ended today at Leh with a grand cultural function. The Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Mr. Chering Dorje was the chief guest on the occasion.
The Executive Councilor, Health Mr. Dorje Motup, MLC., Mr. P Namgyal, Dy. Commissioner, Mr. AK Sahoo, SP, Leh Mr. Samual, district officers, prominent citizens, religious heads and a good number of people attended the closing ceremonial function. A large foreign and domestic tourists also attended the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Chering Dorje appealed the foreigners to take good memories from Ladakh and share the adventure and cultural experiences of this place with their nears and dears so that they make tour programme for Ladakh in years to come. Dorje expressed satisfaction over the booming completion of 15 days Ladakh Festival and said that Ladakh festival has succeeded to showcase the cultural values of Ladakh to the outsiders, adding that this would help to pull more and more tourists in Ladakh in the near future.
He appreciated the Organizing Committee of the Ladakh festival and the hard efforts Deputy Commissioner, Leh for organizing the festival giving it a true colour. Mr. Dorje also appreciated the artists of Ladakh for presenting their best.
It is to mention that during the 15-day Ladakh Festival, grand music concerts, cultural shows, mock marriage ceremonies, Lama mask dances, thangka exhibitions, archeri festivals, river rafting, double humped camel safaris, Ladakhi food exhibition, film festival , vegetable and fruit expo were organized.
