| KPs find common cause with Jammu | | Homeland demand takes centerstage after overwhelming BJP support | | Early Times Report Jammu | Sept 15
Buoyed by the overwhelming support of the BJP and almost all organizations of the Sangh Parivar, the displaced Kashmiri Pandits have renewed and intensified their movement for the “separate homeland” within the Kashmir Valley. After their enmasse displacement from their native places in early 1990s following the separatist movement, the Kashmiri Pandits had been calling for creation of a separate homeland for them within the Valley. This demanding was a major rallying point during late 1990s and early of this decade but the voices slowed down after division of several KP organizations, cropping up of umpteen new bodies and competition of self-appropriation against each other. There has been resurgence among the various KP organizations and the demand for separate homeland is once again the main talking point after the recent Jammu agitation. Scores of Kashmiri Pandit organizations recently found a common cause with the people of Jammu against the separatists and vowed their support to the agitation launched by Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti. During this agitation and in the aftermath, the Kashmiri Pandits have earned not only sympathies but also issued based support from various organizations, particularly the BJP. At the recently concluded Bangalore National Executive meet, the BJP President Rajnath Singh went a step further in not only endorsing the demand of Kashmiri Pandits but also vehemently supporting creation of a separate “homeland” demand. Following recent Jammu agitation, the Kashmiri Pandits are now finding a common ground with the Dogra and other people of Jammu in assertion of their demands. This was also seen today when a symposium organized by a KP Organisation Panun Kashmir had the veteran Praja Parishad leader Om Prakash Mengi as the chief guest at the occasion where homeland demand found dominance in discourse. Mengi lauded the role of the people who fought the struggle with dedication and commitment. He specially acknowledged the role of Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo for his services before and during the uprising and said that new standards of service and articulation have been created. He expressed his sincere gratitude to the national mission, which the PKM was pursuing and appreciated the role played by PKM and its overseas friends led by Ashwani Kumar. Prof. M.L.Raina in his keynote address emphasized the need for unity in the rank and file of nationalist forces in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the victory in the Jammu agitation has given all of us a purpose to lead our generations to a life of dignity and honour. Half the battle has been won while destination is yet far ahead. He appealed for a unified agenda and action. O.P. Sharma said that the intellectuals of both the communities, the Kashmiri Pandits and the Dogras, have a bounden duty to awaken the thinking minds and not stop till we achieve the final destination. There has to be no compromise on the rights that are due to us. The agitation has brought the two nationalist communities of Jammu and Kashmir very closer and we need to strengthen this bond of unity and brotherhood in future to fight unitedly. Chrungoo, in his presidential address gave a vivid account of the processes, which the road ahead needs to focus upon. He said that the PKM has a clear vision so far as our duties are concerned. The Kashmiri Pandits have since rejected the Muslim majoritarian system of politics and will not subjugate themselves to the servitude of communal and fundamentalist designs in the Jammu and Kashmir State. He said, the demand of Homeland represents the core aspirations of the community and the nationalist forces of the state and is a guarantee to reestablish the indigenous people of the Kashmir valley with a promise of living a full life in Kashmir. |
