ICELA awards 19 meritorious teachers

RAJOURI, SEPTEMBER 10 :
As many as 19 teachers both from government and private institutions were awarded by Indian Council for Environmental Legal Action (ICELA) at a felicitating function held in collaboration with National Public Higher Secondary School at Rajouri today.
The function was presided over by the District Development Commissioner, Mr. Parvez Malik while MLC Mr. Ashok Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ashok Sharma called upon the teaching community to inculcate the spirit for preserving environment among the students. He said youth being future citizens need to be sensitized about the environmental hazards so that they play collaborative role in the conservation of environment especially in the promotion of green cover.
Disclosing that ICELA will organize series of debates and seminars across the state for spreading awareness regarding the protection of flora and fona in the state, Mr. Sharma underlined the need for initiating a full fledged movement at village level in this connection.
Calling upon teachers to be flag bearers in this mission, the MLC called for introducing Environmental studies as a compulsory subject right from primary level. He said next year the criteria for awarding teachers would be judged on account of their contribution regarding environmental protection.
The DDC in his speech while congratulating the awardee teachers for their devotional and exemplary service called for sparing a thought on the general decline of education standard. He said teachers as role model in the society must rise to the occasion and serve the society with missionary zeal and zest.
Reminding the teaching community of their duties regarding imparting quality education, Mr. Malik said that devotional teachers still command respect and honour despite the increasing materialistic tendencies in the society.
Each awardees teacher was later given a shawl, memento and a citation jointly by the chief guest and President of the function.
Earlier, children of various private institutions presented colourful cultural programme, which was highly appreciated by the audience.
