EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 4: Secretary BJP Jammu & Kashmir Rekha Mahajan felicitated daughter of the soil Captain Shivani Manhas (29) one of the women pilots who have set the record for flying on the North Pole, the world's longest air route.
Rekha Mahajan was accompanied by Monika Khosla Mahila Morcha State Vice President, Poonam Gupta IT Incharge, Indu Puri Protocol Incharge, Divya Jain District General Secretary, Sarojini Sharma and Chanderkala Mahajan.
Shivani was among the female pilots who has created history by flying from North Pole Played first captain role in 16000 km flight from San Francisco to Bangalore. She hails from Trikuta Nagar in Jammu. Her record has made the entire Jammu and Kashmir proud said Rekha mahajan while felicitating Captain Shivani.
The status of women in India has undergone a gradual yet dramatic change. No longer women are confined only to their homes. According to the Indian constitution, women are equal to men in all respects. At present, women in India are also walking shoulder to shoulder with men. On many such occasions, women have proved themselves, in occupations, careers and influential positions which were not so very long ago closed to them. But what seems perhaps as important as the opportunities now open to women in work and service to humanity is the manner in which women approach everything they do. The solution to the equality of men and women is not that women should become like men, but that in whatever they do, they must manifest their unique qualities of spirit so that the masculine and feminine elements of civilization, the wings of the bird of humanity, will be more properly balanced added Rekha Mahajan.
Shivani Manhas said that she has been with Air India for over four years . Women pilots have achieved extraordinary feats. Four women pilots successfully carried out such a historic flight and brought it safely and what would be greater women's empowerment.Daughters of Jammu and Kashmir have great skills, they need strong determination to keep them in front of the world. The girls here need courage to dream and a solid dedication to fulfill them
She credits her success to her parents, father Shamsher Singh Manhas a businessman and mother Mohini Manhas a housewife.
