2/4/2021 10:21:15 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 4: JKNPP leaders today submitted a memorandum to State Election Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner (District Election Officer) Udhampur for disqualification of Rakesh Chander Sharma as DDC member on grounds of having contested the elections for the said post despite having been on the rolls of government as government contractor. The memorandum read thus "that one Rakesh Chander Sharma who is a govt contractor and has a valid card issued by PWD and he has contested the election of DDC Udhampur from Ghordi constituency. He has got elected and taken the oath of office as well. The said contractor however continues to hold the said card in violation of cardinal principles of constitution and rule of law. Being a member of DDC, the said person cannot hold any office of profit and cannot undertake any government contract. He could not have contested any election before surrendering his card as govt contractor and without fluffing his contractual obligations arising out of contracts signed with the govt. The illegality committed by him by contesting election while being on the rolls of govt contractors has rendered his election void ab initio. The needful action therefore needs to be taken forthwith and his election as DDC member declared null and void. Necessary action is required to be taken before holding elections for DDC Chairman of District Udhampur."
The Party cautioned the concerned authorities of due consequences if the membership of the said person was not terminated and he was disqualified from voting in the February 8 elections due to be held for the post of Chairman of DDC Udhampur.
The signatories to the memorandum included NPP leaders Dhani Ram Attri, State Secretary; Ram Paul Bhagat, District President SC Cell, Udhampur; Vishav Dev Singh, President Kisan Cell, Udhampur; Jagdish Chander, Municipal Councillor, Udhampur and Tananter Singh, Vice President, District Udhampur.
