EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Feb 4: Slamming J&K Academy of Arts Culture and Languages for its apathy towards problems and difficulties of artists of Jammu Division, All Artists Association of Jammu (AAAJ) expressed its anguish over lack of interests and willingness of Cultural Academy administration to streamline its functioning in the overall interest of Artists fraternity, who are the backbone of the society to keep its fabric tight together under all circumstances. This was stated by Surinder Singh Manhas, President AAAJ in a press conference at Press Club Jammu today clamoring that J&K Cultural Academy meant for promotion and development of art culture and languages has, of late, grown as a parasite and cause of hindrance for uplifting the cause and watching the interests of Artists for which hefty amount is spent by the government in terms of salaries paid to Officers and employees. There is no fixed criteria and policy of the Cultural Academy to book the artists in a systematic way with many deserving and graded artists are given step motherly treatments by the Cultural Academy, bemoaned Manhas adding that few employees have monopolized the whole system of treating the artists as per their whims and vagaries to appease few and annoy many with regard to booking of Artists with officers heading the offices are clueless about anarchy prevailing in the Academy at the costs of majority of Artists. Chairman of the Association Rakesh Anand said that payment of artists in lakhs is lying pending since years together with the Cultural Academy for performances made at the behest of Divisional Office Jammu. Shashi Gupta, General Secretary of the Association said that the present Secretary holding additional charge of Cultural Academy in addition to his duties has shown no interest to improve the lot of artists.
He urged the LG Administration to appoint soon an independent competent officer as Secretary of Cultural Academy who is well conversant with art, culture and languages , he pointed out adding that Abhinav Theatre Jammu is still not put to operation for the Artists to hold their activities despite many such activities are being held in other auditoriums of Jammu including Teacher Bhawan, Zorawar Singh Auditorium etc. He appealed to the Lt Governor to intervene in order to redress grievances of Artists who are the strength of the society to build peace loving conducive atmosphere amongst the people belonging to different stratas of the society.
