Wanted Jaish aide arrested at IGI airport after deportation from Qatar
2/5/2021 8:04:03 PM

Srinagar , Feb 05

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday morning arrested a top Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) Over Ground Worker (OGW). The Jaish OGW has been identified as Munib Sofi of Bijbehara and was arrested from Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi after Kulgam police managed to get his deportation from Qatar.

He has been charged for collecting money to support terror activity and arranging weapons. A top officer in J&K Police called it a "big catch".

Since registration of FIR in June last year, Kulgam police worked on getting him deported under Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) after investigation found that he was working for Pakistani terrorist Waleed Bhai who was killed in an encounter in Kulgam last year.

An accused arrested in the said case disclosed that Munib, along with other OGWs, was collecting money for JeM from various districts in Kashmir and was handing over the collected amount to Muneeb Ahmad Sofi who was in Qatar and was in contact with active terrorist of JeM Waleed Bhai for purchase of arms and ammunition from Pakistan.

A lookout notice was issued against Muneeb and a non-bailable warrant was obtained from the concerned court.

Consequent to the deportation of the accused from Qatar to India, he was apprehended at IGI Airport and is being brought to Kulgam for further questioning and investigation.
