11 booked for profiteering

To curb the attempt of malpractice in rates and tranquility of the essential commodities during Ramzan and Idd-ul-Fitr festival, squad constituted by the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu conducted surprise check under the supervision of Additional District Magistrate, Jammu M. S. Sheikh of old city area viz Talab Khatikan, Residency Road, Below Gumat, K. C. Chowk, Mohalla Ustad, Ambphalla etc. About 200 to 250 shops of various trades were checked, out of which 11 defaulters have been booked under Essential Commodities Act, 1980 and were challaned on spot. Besides 13 defaulters have also been booked under P.F.A. Act of 1954 by the Food Inspector, JMC Jammu.
During the course of action, all the shopkeepers were directed to avoid the tendency of over charging and sale of sub-standard commodities. They were warned that cases will be registered against the defaulters.
