| 7728 to go on Hajj this year | | | Early Times Report Jammu | Sept 18 Altogether 7728 devotees will go for Haj pilgrimage this year from the state as the process of draw of lots for additional quota for pilgrims was completed today, an official spokesman said. The departure of pilgrims to the holy city of Mecca from here would commence from October 30 and conclude on December two, the spokesman added. Single flights will operate from here to Jeddah from October 30 to November 12 while double Haj flights will operate from November 13 to December two, the spokesman said after Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Masaud Samoon discussed arrangements and preparations for Haj 2008 at a high-level meeting at Srinagar today. As many as 6228 pilgrims, out of over 16,000 applicants, were selected through computerised draw of lots instead of manual selection. Demands were raised for enhancement of the quota and accordingly, the authorities took up the matter with the central Haj committee and finally the additional quota of 1500 seats were announced for the state a few days ago. The selection of pilgrims from the additional quota was again held through computerised draw of lots today, the sources said. |
