| Invoke section 92, BJP asks Guv | | | Early Times Report Jammu | Sept 18 Ridiculing the claim of the Congress that it stopped discrimination against Jammu during its rule, BJP State Vice-President & spokesperson Prof. Hari Om today said that the Congress is taking recourse to white lies to befool the people of Jammu province in its desperate bid to retrieve the political ground it lost due to its dubious role in the Amarnath land row and its anti-Jammu policies. To prove his point, Prof. Hari Om cited two specific instances to expose the hollowness of the Congress’s claim. One, the Congress-led government negated the recommendations of the Wazir Commission and created four districts each in Kashmir and Jammu. He said the Wazir Commission had suggested in unambiguous terms that Jammu deserved at least nine districts and Kashmir only seven, as against six, because Jammu province had more area and more population and because the nature of terrain in Jammu province was highly treacherous and difficult. But the Congress government created four districts in Kashmir, a couple of them even one-tehsil districtReferring to the other glaring instance of gross discrimination, Prof. Hari Om said that the Congress-led government did its best in July-August 2006 to further harm Jammu by suggesting a 25 per cent proportional increase in the number of seats in the assembly for Kashmir and Jammu. He also urged the State Governor to invoke section 92 of the State Constitution and appoint forthwith a Delimitation Commission so that Jammu gets due share of representation in the assembly. He said the people of Jammu legitimately deserve more than fifty per cent representation in the assembly. |
