| BJP embarks on poll trail | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 19: The state unit of the BJP has started, what is called pre-poll campaign, in various areas of the Jammu region. The party spokesman Prof. Hari Om, today said "it is pre-poll campaign but essentially it is a campaign for securing self respect and political power for the people of the Jammu region." Prof. Hari Om explained that establishment of a provincial council alone could guarantee political power for the Jammu region and "we have decided to use it in our poll campaign." He said the BJP has no dearth of issues that it planned to raise during the pre-poll campaign. He said "we will lay emphasis on the need for setting up Delimitation Commission because the Jammu region's continued discrimination was the result of meager share in the Assembly seats". He said on the basis of its area and population, the Jammu region deserved more Assembly constituencies.” Prof. Hari Om said that another reason for the discrimination of the people of the Jammu region was the in equal distribution of development funds and in this regard cited an example that during the past three decades several hundred crores of rupees had been spent on the conservation and development of the Dal Lake and against this a few thousand rupees had been spent on the development of Mansar and Suirnsar lakes. He said "we have to campaign against poor share of the Jammuties in the Government services". |
