| 10 Jammu youths shine in GSI exam | | | Pankaj Sagar JAMMU, Sept 19:In the history of Jammu and Kashmir for the first time, ten candidates from Jammu and two candidates from valley got selected for the prestigious post of Geologist in Geological Survey of Indian (G.S.I). Nine candidates out of ten who were selected, are alumni of Govt Gandhi Memorial Science College, made Jammu proud. They are Salim Javed, Tarseem Kumar, Davinder, Parveen Kumar, Deep Raj Thappa, Balbir Kundal, Ajay Digra, Sanjay Jangral, Suresh Kumar, Gopal Kumar. All the candidates after being selected visited their “alma-mater G.G.M Science College and expressed gratitude towards the faculty members of the Department of Geology. Dr. Sanjay Kurloopia HoD Geology Dr. Yashpal Kundal and Dr. C.K Khajuria for their continuous support and encouragement. The HoD of Geology Dept Yashapal told this correspondent that o our state lacks awareness about the importance of the Geology and the subject is taught only in few colleges in JMU. They highlighted the importance of Geology and told that Ecology subject plays a key role in the study of Earth quakes, Economic minerals including petroleum deposits, Hydrological resources and Geo-technical investigations of dams’ tunnel, railway and roads. One of selected candidates Balbir Kundal told that Geology has a huge potential in providing employment and drawing handsome packages and many of his class fellows are also working in private sector companies like J.P industries, Konkun Railways, Irkon, Petroleum etc. |
