| Zardari makes PDP rejoice | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT BANIHAL, Sept 21:PDP today welcomed the statement of Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari wherein he expressed Pakistan's willingness to start trade between the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir through Srinagar-Muzafferabad and Poonch-Rawlakote roads. While addressing party workers meetings at Banihal and Ramban, PDP leader Mohammed Dilawar Mir has urged upon the two countries to restore the trade relation between the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest fulfilling the wishes of the people of the state who sacrificed a lot for the purpose. Mir, however, averred that free trade was the need of the hour and that the government of India should overcome all the bureaucratic hurdles in enhancing free trade between the two parts of Jammu and Kashmir. " symbolic or cosmetic trade relation would not serve any purpose, it should be wider and open for all without artificial barricades" Mir observed and added that cross LoC confidence building could go a long way in addressing the alienation of the people and could bring in peace and stability in the region. Speaking on the occasion senior leader and former minister Peer Muhammad Hussain expressed his deep concern over the harassment of youth in the area by the law-enforcing agencies. He said that the security agencies have launched a manhunt in Banihal and Ramban areas to nab the youth who participated in recent peaceful protests and described the police action as unwarranted and uncalled for. Hussain said that repression was never a solution, it rather aggravates the problem. He stressed for a careful handling of the situation. Basharat Bukhari said that there was acute shortage of essentials and eatables in various parts of the state including the hilly areas of Ramban and Banihal. He said the there were certain loopholes in public distribution system in the state that need to be removed at the earliest. He urged upon the authorities to make all possible measures and ensure smooth and speedy supply of essentials to the consumers. |
