| Rs 117 Crore release for pending works | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Sept 22: With a view to accelerate the pace of work on the ongoing developmental works and flagship programmes in the State, Governor N. N. Vohra, today approved additionality of funds, amounting to about Rs 117 crore, for various projects. The Governor has been personally reviewing and monitoring the progress of the on-going schemes to ensure their completion within the stipulated time-frame. He has been impressing upon the executing agencies to speed up work on all the ongoing projects, keeping in view the limited working season in the wake of ensuing winter. Vohra has sanctioned a little over Rs 53 crore for the flagship programmes, which include the Haj House, Assembly Complex, Museum Complex and the building for Institute of Management & Public Administration at Srinagar, besides the buildings for various Colleges and Industrial Training Institutes, taken up under the Prime Minister's Reconstruction Plan. To ensure timely completion of the College and ITI buildings, the Governor has sanctioned an additionality of Rs 23.96 crore. For completion of the second phase of the prestigious Haj Complex an additionality of Rs 7 crore has been approved. Similarly, additional Rs 7.87 crore have been sanctioned for the Srinagar Museum Building and about Rs 2.09 crore for the IMPA Hostel building at Srinagar. Till July last, about Rs 110 crore had been spent on these projects. In view of the dire need for augmenting drinking water in Jammu City, the Governor approved an immediate grant of Rs 27. 26 crore for expeditious completion of the ambitious Sitlee Water Supply Scheme, currently under execution near Nagrota. Vohra had inspected and reviewed the progress on the Unit-III of the 5.4 MGD Filtration Plant on July 16 and asked the Engineers to accelerate work on the Project for meeting the requirements in the city. Taken up at a cost of Rs 61.72 crore, an amount of Rs 8 crore had been spent on the scheme till July last. The main developmental thrust being on road connectivity, the Governor approved over Rs 10.27 crore for 10 bridges and one road project in the State. He also approved over Rs 24 crore for completing four building projects under the health sector in the State. Of this, an additional amount of Rs 3 crore have been sanctioned for the construction of the Additional Emergency Block at Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu; Rs 1.80 crore the OPD Block of Health Centre, Kokernag; Rs 85 lakh for the Trauma Hospital at Kangan and Rs 43 lakhs for Trauma Hospital at Ramban. So far, about Rs 14.07 crore have been spent on these buildings. The Governor has also approved an additionality of Rs 10 crore each for the various ongoing works in the Leh and Kargil districts of the Ladakh region. |
