| J&K police team sent to Punjab to probe Hizb arrests | | |
Srinagar, Sep 11 A Jammu and Kashmir police team has been sent to gather details of the suspected Hizbul Mujahideen militants arrested in Punjab last month.
"We have sent a team headed by a police inspector to gather details of the suspected militants arrested by Punjab police in Madhopur in Gurdaspur district," Kashmir Inspector- General of Police S M Sahai said.
He said J&K police requested details of the arrests but had received nothing so far.
On August 20, Punjab police claimed to have arrested two Hizb militants, Jahangir and Tahir Hussain, from Madhopur and and seized a consignment of arms to be delivered to Jahangir Mir, owner of Green Valley Transport Company, for distribution for militant activities.
Mir contested the claims saying the case was fabricated and a result of personal rivalry with a police officer and one of his informers.
"I have been described as a District Commander of Hizbul Mujahideen and declared absconding. If Punjab police is right in its claims, why don't they contact J&K police and arrest us," he said.
He said Punjab police even floated a story of a Kashmiri woman spy who had cameras fitted in her rings and was taking photographs of vital installations including Army camps.
"The woman in question is the wife of my nephew and we are all here to face the law. We are not absconding and have not indulged in any illegal activity," he said.
Mir alleged that his house in Madhopur was ransacked and a police officer had even taken a fridge and television from his house. |
